Unity of St. John post-hurricane Irma and Maria Relief

Thanks to everyone who has supported us spiritually, lovingly, prayerfully and financially during this challenging (that’s the understatement of the year) time of post hurricane recovery. You are such a blessing of light when the dark clouds of despair cover us and our little island. As Unity teachings remind us, the sun is always shining above the clouds….whether we can see it or not. Thank you for reminding us of that Truth through your kind and encouraging words and contributions.100% of financial contributions go directly for the purchase of the supplies the island has indicated it needs, from mosquito nets to tire repair kits. (From flats caused by all the debris on the road). People there are traumatized and still in need of basic survival supplies.

In an unprecedented chain of events, St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands and most of the Caribbean were devastated by two hurricanes in two weeks including Hurricane Irma, the strongest hurricane in recorded history do category 5 Hurricane Maria with a bounce off of Hurricane Jose. The majority of St. John lost their homes, electricity is off until 2018, airports and post offices are closed, cell service, Internet and banks are down (no credit cards, food stamps or ATM). The people are traumatized and many are without employment, homes, food or water. Relief efforts are slow or nonexistent, compromised by the emergency needs like so much of the world, resulting from shocking weather events that are literally uprooting our lives. Due to the number of other newsworthy crises, St. John, a tiny island in the Caribbean, has been disregarded by the media, except by our celebrity resident, Kenny Chesney.

I’m calling for mighty assistance, for prayer, spiritual and financial support from our Unity family.

We’ve organizied a relief effort of food, supplies and services through Unity of St. John, which you can see on UnityofStJohn.org or our Facebook page. We have about 500 items collected so far and are trying to arrange shipping, complicated by closed ports and airports. We will be offering free counseling, volunteer work with the red cross for disaster mental health, up-lifting spiritual and emotional support gatherings/classes and, of course, we’ll be back on Peace Hill for our Sunday sunset services, holding a consciousness for much-needed personal, island and world “peace in the midst of all things.”

We’d be most grateful if you could share this info with your churches and hold our islands in prayer. We’re an all-volunteer (including me), expansion ministry/non profit organization, so 100% of the donations will go directly to the people of St. John. Unity of St. Croix and the Unity spiritual communities in Puerto Rico and throughout the Caribbean have also been seriously compromised or destroyed. Donation details are on our website and FB page, essentially PayPal. With banks and the post office not operating, PayPal is the only operational service since it’s not located in the Virgin Islands. However, if that can’t work, checks may be mailed, but it could be a very long time before they can be cashed.

Personally, I was at Unity Village in Kansas City for World Day of Prayer when the hurricanes hit. Interestingly the theme for this year’s World Day of Prayer was “Peace in the Midst of All Things” and one of my LUT classes was “I of the Storm”! I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to get back to the islands to help ever since, but all airports and boats are closed. My house and office and my daughter’s home are miraculously ok and I’m convinced it was the powerful prayers of Silent Unity and my Unity family that protected them when everything around them was destroyed. Now I’m organizing efforts from the States and helping my daughter, Sunshine and grandkids who evacuated dramatically on a Red Cross after Hurricane Irma. We’re staying with family until I can get back to the islands. She said, “Mom, that Unity protection bubble really worked!”

Thanks so much for your love and support. Unity Worldwide Ministries, Unity World Headquarters, Silent Unity and my Unity Spiritual Institute teachers and peers have been amazing. Special thanks to Ed Holtzman of Artful Pussycat for his help in getting our media messages and web design out there!”

With Love and Gratitude,
